DSWD-Davao marks annual Elderly Filipino Week

DAVAO CITY, Oct. 1 -– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)here on Monday marked the annual celebration of Elderly Filipino Week with the payout of social pension to the qualified senior citizens of Malita, Don Marcelino and Jose Abad Santos in Davao Del Sur province.

DSWD Assistant Regional Director Priscilla N. Razon said this year's celebration will have the theme, “NAKATATANDA: Sa Bisa ng R.A 9994, May Dangal, Nagkakaisa, Buhay ay Gumiginhawa" for this year.

She said all DSWD regional offices have been instructed to prepare activities to promote and fulfill the rights, privileges and benefits of senior citizens.

Razon said different local government units and the private sector are likewise organizing their respective events for the week-long observance.

Residents and workers of DSWD Home for the Aged in Tagum City will hold their celebration at Bora-Bora Beach, Mabini on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Razon said the Regional Coordinating and Monitoring Board (RCMB) and the Regional Inter-Agency Committee on Older Persons (RIACOP) will hold a Quarterly Meeting on October 8 with participants from national and local government offices, Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines (FSCAP), and the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA).

Invited resource persons are from the Department of Health (DOH) and from Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), she said. (PNA)
