Comelec to candidates: Control supporters during the filing of COCs

MANILA, Sept. 28 — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reminded candidates who will be filing their certificates of candidacy (COCs) next week for the May 2013 polls to control their supporters to avoid untoward incidents.

Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said that just like everybody, they would want the event to be orderly and peaceful.

The filing of the COCs will be from Oct. 1 to 5, 2012, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Jimenez said the candidates themselves should be reasonable and calm, so their supporters would follow them.

With this, the Comelec official urged those who are looking to participate in next year’s elections to download and fill up the COC form this early in their website

“We have been encouraging them to get forms for the last two weeks. They can download the form or have it photocopied if they have a hard copy, so when they submit the form, there will no longer be any problem. That’s one of the reasons why we disseminated the forms this early,” said Jimenez.

Section 3 of Comelec Resolution 9518 states that candidates for senator should file their COCs at the main office in Intramuros, Manila; at the regional, provincial, or municipal election offices for members of the House of Representatives and local officials; and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao regional and provincial election offices for ARMM candidates.
