BAMBANG, Nueva Vizcaya, Aug. 30 — Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) president and chief executive officer Dr. Eduardo Banzon has assured members of additional health care benefits through the Universal Health Care Program (UHCP).

“We are encouraging all Filipinos to enroll in our insurance program because this will eventually unburden our poor sector from expensive hospitalization, medicine cost and other services,” Banzon told reporters here Thursday morning.

He visited the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Hospital (NVPH) in Barangay Almaguer North in this town and met with local officials and health workers.

Banzon reiterated that there is no more reason for PhilHealth accredited hospitals on the non-availability of medicines needed by PhilHealth enrolled patients because it is the goal of the UHCP.

“Medicines should always be ready and available for PhilHealth members. There should be no more referrals,” Banzon added.

According to Banzon, there is a need to encourage other indigent families to enroll with the PhilHealth program, especially during times of disasters and calamities.

The PhilHealth chief also said that their launching of the Package Z Benefit which covers the treatment of breast, prostate and kidney illnesses is now implemented nationwide.

Banzon also announced the upcoming distribution of some 10 million PhilHealth ID cards in the country before the end of the year.

The cards, he said will be distributed through their Mobile Orientation, Validation and Enrolment Scheme (MOVES) which also seeks to bring the insurance program closer to the villagers. (PNA)
