MANILA, Aug. 30 – Sen. Panfilo Lacson described Thursday the scheduled meeting between President Benigno Aquino III and China President Hu Jintao as ‘a good break’ for the two countries.

He said this would be a good opportunity for the two leaders to discuss issues on the conflicting claims over the Panatag or Scarborough Shoal at the West Philippine Sea.

”It’s not really a permanent resolution of the West Philippine Sea crisis if you can call it that but at least this is already a break that we can pursue so that we will benefit from the resources in the area,” Lacson said in media interview.

President Aquino and his Chinese counterpart are reportedly set to meet at the sidelines of the forthcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Conference summit in Russia next week.

Lacson said he has been pushing for bilateral talks, adding the multilateral approach involving other countries is not good to resolve the dispute.

”If bilateral, only the interest of China and the Philippines will be discussed,” Lacson said.

Lacson said the two leaders can already discuss how to explore the area that would be beneficial to both countries.

”We need more economic benefits and we can achieved that under bilateral talks with China. We can set aside for a while the issue on the sovereignty and territorial integrity our country and China,” Lacson said. (PNA)
