Lacson supports Sereno’s no media interview policy

MANILA, Aug. 29 — Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Wednesday he is supporting the "no media interview" policy of newly-appointed Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno.

”It’s only proper. I’ll subscribe to that idea,” Lacson said.

Lacson said it is not only the Chief Justice but the justices of the Supreme Court should shy away from media interviews.

”They should only talk in one voice through a spokesman designated by the SC,” Lacson said.

” Before, the justices were very dignified in handling themselves. Sometimes if you are too much open to the media, their interpretation of the laws is being misinterpreted specially on the Supreme Court ruling and decisions,” Lacson said.

Lacson also appealed to the public not to make speculation that senior justices are not supportive of Sereno’s appointment.

”Those are speculations because what I’ve heard was that (justices) will respect the new Chief Justice,” Lacson said.

Last Friday, President Benigno Aquino III picked Sereno over seven other candidates in the short list submitted by the Judical and Bar Council. (PNA)
