MANILA,Aug.19– The active low pressure area (ALPA) spotted in Cagayan will bring rain in Northern and Central Luzon, but the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila will experience fair weather, the state weather bureau said on Sunday.

Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said as of 2 a.m. Sunday, the ALPA spotted at 330 km east of Aparri, Cagayan (18.4°N 125.2°E) will bring scattered rainshowers over Northern and Central Luzon and might develop into a tropical depression.

urelio said once the ALPA becomes a tropical depression inside the PAR, it will be locally codenamed "Igme," the 9th cyclone to enter the country this year.

Aurelio also said that it will likely enhance the southwest monsoon again, which may bring rain to parts of Luzon.

He added that Metro Manila will experience fair weather with partly cloudy and isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.

In its advisory, PAGASA said Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The rest of Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rain over Northern Luzon which may trigger flashfloods and landslides

“Residents living in low-lying areas and along mountain slopes are advised to be on alert for possible occurrence of flash floods and landslides,” PAGASA said.

PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to west will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest to west with slight to moderate seas. (PNA)
