MANILA, July 20 — Malacanang extends its greetings of solidarity to all Muslim Filipinos in celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

"As the Holy Month of Ramadan begins, we send greetings of solidarity to all our Muslim Filipino brothers and sisters," Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in a statement he issued during the regular press briefing in Malacanang on Friday.

The observance of Islam's holy month started on July 20 and ends on August 18.

"The coming weeks shall be dedicated to the solemn fulfillment of the tenets of your spirituality, demanding great sacrifice and due discipline, as an act of surrender to Allah, the beneficent, and all-merciful," Lacierda said.

"These are times when your government has been working with all people of goodwill, to restore trust and confidence in our vital institutions. May we all be filled with this spirit of cooperation, respect, and confidence as we seek the path of peace," he added.

Ramadan is when Muslims observe a month-long of strict fasting for a period of 12 hours daily, from sunrise to sunset. By fasting, the Muslims hope to strengthen their self-restraint and develop piety. (PNA)
