P6.4 M worth of counterfeit 'Angry Bird' t-shirts seized in Manila

MANILA, July 13 – Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation-Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD) has seized some P6.4 million worth of counterfeit "Angry Bird" t-shirts in Tondo, Manila during operations early this week.

Seized from the raid were 32,351 counterfeit "Angry Bird" shirts.

These items were all seized from the factory and stockroom of JNT Garments located at No. 1671 A. Rivera Street and Third Floor, No. 352 Guidote Street Balut, Tondo, respectively.

The establishment is owned by one Jonathan Tan.

The NBI-IPRD raided the establishment after the Betita Cabilao Casuela Sarmiento Law Office, representing Rovio Entertainment Ltd., filed a complaint against JNT Garments for engaging in the illegal distribution and sale of counterfeit "Angry Bird" t-shirts.

Acting Presiding Judge Lyliha L. Abella-Aquino of Manila Regional Trial Court Branch-24 issued the warrant authorizing the raid.

Charges of Trademark Infringement and Unfair Competition under the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines or Republic Act 8293 are being prepared against the owner of the raided establishment. (PNA)
