Additional performance incentive bonus for gov’t workers to increase productivity

DAVAO CITY, July 11 — The plan of the Aquino administration to provide performance–based incentive bonus to government employees ranging from P15,000 to P35,000 on top of existing productivity bonus will motivate workers to be more productive, Davao City assistant city administrator Erwin Alparaque said.
He, however, said that government workers should honestly rate themselves according to their real performance.
Government employees are the ones preparing their performance report every year subject to the evaluation and confirmation by their respective department heads.
“Adjusting the points to become very satisfactory or VS (very satisfactory) is not proper and constitutes dishonesty. But it also depends on the rater, there are guidelines to follow like the one-on-one discussion between the employee and the rater,” Alparaque said.
Under the General Appropriations Act which will be submitted by the Executive department to Congress after President Aquino delivers his State-of-the Nation (SONA) on July 23, about P10 billion is set aside for the performance-based incentive productivity bonus that will be given to deserving government employees.
Alparaque said if the proposed plan includes local government units, then, City Hall will implement the policy.
“We will just wait for that law,’ he said. (PNA)
