Update: NPAs escape from Agusan Del Sur mining complex

MANILA, July 5 – The 30 New People's Army (NPA)members earlier reported trapped at a gold mine complex in Ridge Mount, Purok 11, Bayugan III, Rosario town, Agusan Del Sur were able to break through the cordon by using their three hostages as human shields.

CARAGA head Chief Supt. Reynaldo Rafal said the communist rebels were able to leave around 3 p.m.

He added that they are now conducting pursuit operations against the rebels with the elements of the 4th Infantry Division.

Rafal stated that they opted not to engage the NPAs during their withdrawal out of consideration of the three civilian hostages.

Communist rebels raided the VTO Mining which is owned by one Engr. Vivencio C. Ocite, around 3 a.m.

All of the duty security guards were disarmed and the mining office was ransacked.(PNA)
