MANILA, June 12 — The Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Tuesday afternoon the celebration of the country's 114th Independence Day was generally peaceful.

"Our general assessment so far is that the holiday is proceeding very peacefully," PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr. said.

According to Cerbo, security precautions are all normal except in some areas in Mindanao requiring full red alert status.

The PNP spokesperson said that police commanders always have the option to upgrade their alert status as they see fit.

Meanwhile, Cerbo said the PNP observed Independence Day by having simultaneous flag-raising activities in all major camps, singing of patriotic songs, and releasing of white doves in all key bases, which symbolizes the country's freedom. (PNA) scs/PFN
