MANILA, May 27 – The Batangas Provincial Police Office (BPPO) on Sunday reported the death of San Juan City acting Special Reaction Unit (SRU) head Senior Insp. Renato Samson following a diving accident in Mabini, Batangas.

BPPO spokesperson Chief Insp. Elpidio Duenas said Samson, 36, drowned around 9 a.m. while diving with seven other policemen in the waters off Barangay Ligaya.

"They were undergoing search-and-rescue training in about 20 meters of water when the accident happened," Duenas said.

Samson's companions eventually managed to pull him out of the water and took him to the Mabini General Hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival by the attending physician Dr. Jigger Gilera. (PNA)
