MANILA, May 27 – Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri said on Sunday that some 900 marginalized families stand to benefit from the local government's community mortgage program (CMP).

According to him, the beneficiaries include those families that have been relocated from danger areas such as near the railroad tracks, rivers, and national highways.

Based on the records of the Urban Poor Affairs Office (UPAO), the particular number of beneficiaries is for the period of January to May 2012.

Currently, the necessary documents are being processed so that the lucky families could have official ownership over the parcel of land where their homes would be erected.

Echiverri said the beneficiaries only need to shell out an initial equity payment for the lot, while the balance can be settled via installment for a period of up to 25 years.

During this time, the families can already build their homes.

Located in Barangay Bagumbong, Caloocan North, the relocation site was once privately-owned property until it was purchased by the local government for the purpose of selling it to residents for a very low price.

Agencies such as the National Housing Authority (NHA), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Socialized Housing Financing Inc. (SHFI) are working together to establish Echiverri's project. (PNA)
