3 hurt in Puerto Princesa, El Nido explosions on Maundy Thursday

MANILA, April 6 — At least three persons were injured in two separate explosions that occurred in Puerto Princesa and El Nido, both in Palawan province, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.

In its 7:30 a.m. report on Friday, the NDRRMC said the explosion incident happened on Thursday around 5:30 p.m. which transpired at Puerto Royal Express Bus Station, just behind the Petron Gas Station, Barangay San Jose, Puerto Princesa City

Those injured were Marivic Arias, 28, who suffered minor injury at left ankle and Cenon Magdayo, 75, who suffered minor bruises on forehead and ankle.

The agency said the victims were brought to the nearest hospital for medical treatment while the investigation is still in progress.

Meanwhile, another explosion was reported to have happened in popular resort town of EL Nido also in Palawan.

The NDRRMC said an explosion incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. Thursday in front of Entalula Beach Resort, Zone 3, Barangay Masagana that resulted to one injured identified as Gay Martinez Mallari, 23, cook of the said resort.

Mallari was brought to Dr. Reyes Clinic at Barangay Corong-Corong for medical treatment.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim was throwing garbage outside the resort when the explosion took place.

El Nido MPS, led by Police Inspector Analyn Palma, proceeded to the scene with the EOD and Joint Task Force Malampaya to conduct investigation for possible identification of the type of explosive device.

Meanwhile, Provincial Director PSSupt Reynaldo Jagmis, immediately dispatched the Palawan PPO EOD Team and SOCO Team of Palawan Crime Laboratory Office at the crime scene.

The explosions were timed for the peak of tourist season in Palawan, a popular destination of travelers from all over the world because of its pristine beaches and outstanding natural scenery. (PNA) DCT/CLTC
