ZAMBOANGA CITY, April 4 – Authorities remain clueless on the group behind the abduction of a municipal mayor in the province of Zamboanga del Norte.

Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) Chief Supt. Napoleon Estilles on Wednesday said no suspects have been identified “so far” involving the abduction of Salug, Zamboanga del Norte mayor Jeffrey Lim, 37,Monday night.

Ten gunmen seized Lim at about 7 p.m. Monday while taking a dinner with his wife at an eatery at the town's bus terminal.

The gunmen shoved Lim into a getaway vehicle and sped towards Caracol, a coastal barangay of Salug, and left behind his wife.

From the coast of Caracol, the suspects burned and abandoned the getaway vehicle and boarded two motorized banca together with the town mayor.

“The mayor has just finished playing badminton,” Estilles said.

Lim, like his father, did not have security escorts, according to Estilles.

Lim's father, Jesus, also served as the mayor of Salug municipality.

Estilles disclosed that even the address of the getaway vehicle's owner, which was traced to be registered in Zamboanga City, turned out to be non-existent the reason why they remain clueless who abducted Lim.

Estilles said that they were thoroughly evaluating ther text messages they received concerning Lim's abduction. He did not disclosed the content of the text messages.

Meanwhile, Estilles said they decided to give a free hand to the Crisis Management Committee (CMC) to address the problem while policemen were continuously tracking down the victim's whereabouts.

The search is made in coordination with the military forces in the region, he said. (PNA) RMA/Teofilo P. Garcia/utb
