Bartolome wants re-imposition of death penalty

MANILA, March 30 – With the series of violent crimes wracking the Metropolis and various parts of the country, Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Nicanor Bartolome urged the House of Congress to take a second look on the re-imposition of the death penalty on heinous crime offenders.

"Maybe Congress can take a second look at this due to the series of violent crimes. It could act as deterrent to criminals plotting to do heinous crimes in the future," he said in Filipino.

Bartolome, however, said that he would follow whatever might be issued by lawmakers and President Benigno Aquino III, his commander-in-chief, a known advocate against capital punishment.

He said that the PNP was also doing everything it could to neutralize crime groups in the country. (PNA)
