DILG alerts all attached agencies for Holy Week

MANILA, March 27 – With the Holy Week rush about to begin in four days time, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo on Tuesday has instructed all its attached units which includes the Philippines National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to alert all their men for all eventualities this holiday.

Robredo directed the PNP to be on watch for robbery syndicates out to make a fast buck by breaking into empty homes or apartments this Lenten Season and street thugs like pickpockets and snatchers who might attempt to victimize vacationers queueing in at the various transportation terminals.

Likewise, the BJMP was ordered to be on alert for jailbreaks and the BFP for fires.

At the same time, Robredo urged local government units to step up their safety and security measures, particularly at bus and jeepney terminals.

“As throngs of commuters are expected to troop to their provinces, local governments are expected to enforce the appropriate security measures for the benefit of our commuting public,” he stressed.

The DILG chief also added that local government units should also deploy “force multipliers” to help maintain peace and order in their communities. (PNA)
