MANILA, March 25 — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Sunday the arrest of six Filipinos in the United States for drug possession last Saturday.

The Philippine officials in New York were instructed by the DFA to gather information on the circumstances of the incident.

"The sheriff's office is closed on weekends. Our consulate in New York will visit the sheriff's office in the Hudson County, New Jersey, on Monday and meet with the concerned prosecutor to gather information on the reported arrest," DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said.

Local television station ANC news said the six Filipinos — three men and three women — were apprehended in a raid at a Jersey City home, where undercover U.S. agents confiscated US$ 15,000 worth of crystal metamphetamine or locally known as shabu.

Hernandez said he was informed the case is now with the prosecutor's office for preliminary investigation.

If found guilty, the six can be imprisoned for up to 10 years and pay fines up to US$ 150,000 . (PNA/Xinhua) RMA/rsm
