MANILA, March 16– Did you know how you can get medical assistance from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) in just one day if you will be needing P50,000 and below?

Margarita Juico, PCSO chairperson, said those availing themselves of the Individual Assistance Program of not more than P 50,000 could get the needed assistance or so-called guarantee letter from PCSO on the day they go there.

Juico was guest at the Friday Communication and News Exchange (CNEX) Forum conducted by the Philippine Information Agency in Quezon City.

She said the patient or his family attending to IAP (on first come first served basis) need not go back and forth to PCSO provided they have pertinent documents.

A guarantee letter is a certification issued to hospitals for a particular charity patient under the PCSO medical assistance program.

Under the program, the agency assumes the obligation of settling the cost of hospitalization, including the medicines, medical , surgical or blood supplies and diagnositc procedures.

Likewise, those needing assistance need to bring the following: Letter Request to Chairman/General Manager, Medical Abstract, Bill Quotation/Costing from Hospital/ Pharmacy Supplies, Laboratory Request/Medicine Prescription, Endorsement/Acceptance letter from the Hospital Social Services /Credit Collection office.

Those needing more than P50,000 medical assistance such as surgery could get the medical assistance in about three to four days or within a week pending approval by her office, Juico said,

"Ang utos sa amin ni P-Noy (President Aquino) ay siguraduhin na ang lahat na ibibigay namin ay umabot doon sa baba, mas lalo na iyong mga nangangailangan," Juico said.

Accordingly, for 2011, the PCSO allocated about 6.1 billion pesos for its Charity Programs and Mandatory contributions. (PNA)
