LAMBUNAO, Iloilo, March 14 – Blood relatives of Philippine Military Academy “Bagwis” Class of 2012 Valedictorian Cadet Tom Puertollano are agog over the incoming Philippine Army Officer's meritorious achievement in Asia's elite military school, and thanking profusely the Heavens that a close kin of theirs may be in line for the highest military position in the land in the future.

Evidently at a loss for words to describe their overpowering emotions after 2nd Lt. Tomas Puertollano broke the news himself through a telephone call to his parents' siblings living in this landlocked municipality situated about 46 kilometers off Iloilo City, an uncle, Dingdong Puertollano admitted shedding tears; but disclosed that his nephew is gifted with an astute mind, a quality he had observed in the young Tom years ago.

“Tom was an obedient child with mild manners who had dreams of pulling his family out of poverty,” his Uncle Dingdong mused. Born and raised in the province of Iloilo, Cadet Puertollano's parents are both natives of the province, his father Mario being a son of the town of Lambunao, and his mother, a daughter of Tigbauan in the South. But in 1999, Tom's family moved to Lipa City in Batangas province, and has since then called the place their second home.

The Puertollanos of Iloilo are eagerly and proudly awaiting the coming home of a beloved and long-lost son. (PNA)
