BAGUIO CITY, March 13 – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has joined other government agencies in the early start of the local employment generation program which will benefit mostly students and other members of the youth sector.

Theodore B. Solang, a DSWD official tasked of coordinating the employment program in the Cordilleras, said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has already given 69 youths their jobs.

It was learned that other government agencies as well as local government units in partnership with the business sector have started coordination with the usual summer jobs for poor but deserving students.

Solang said even the out-of-school youths and unemployed adults not older than 45 years are given priority to jobs offered by cooperating firms and agencies.

He said although the region has one of the highest employment rate in the country because of its good agriculture, tourism and mining sectors, "we will see to it that all able-bodied residents will be made productive." (PNA)
