PARANG, Maguindanao, Feb. 29 – Police have launched a province-wide manhunt against three heavily armed men who shot dead three high school students here Tuesday afternoon.

Sr. Supt. Marcelo Pintac, Maguindanao police chief, said he ordered a manhunt against the suspects who victims’ relatives believed were locked in a “rido” (family feud)

According to Carmen dela Cerna, mother of one of the fatalities, said the three boys were heading for home from school but dropped by the river, as they usually do after class, and went fishing at about 4 p.m. in Barangay Molina.

Suddenly, three gunmen armed with assault rifles, arrived and opened fire on them from behind.

Two died on the spot while the other was brought by neighbors to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Dela Cerna identified the fatalities as her son Jubert Sumilhig dela Cerna, 13, Rico Divinagracia, 15 and Jomar Mama, 13.

Mama died before reaching the hospital.

"I believe they were mistaken by the gunmen as members of a rival clan," she said.

Pintac has ordered the Parang PNP to seek the help of Muslim traditional leaders in locating the suspects who were also residents of Barangay Molina.

The children were students of Molina National High School and their classmates and school mates have been asking the police to expedite the manhunt against the attackers. (PNA)
