ORMOC CITY, Feb. 25 — Mayor Elmer C. Codilla has requested the Department Agriculture (DA) to concretize vital farm-to-market roads in neighboring Kananga town.

In his letter to Secretary Proceso Alcala, the mayor stated that being a predominantly agricultural town, Kananga is a major producer of rice, sugar, abaca and other crops.

His administration invested on agricultural programs like the Rice Production Enhancement Program and the production of AXR hybrid rice seeds, earning for Kananga the AgriPinoy Rice Achievers Award. Mayor Codilla offered 10% of funds from the municipal government as counterpart for the road projects.

He identified three 500-meter farm-to-market roads, 16 for 300 meters and one 200-meter road located in Poblacion, San Ignacio, Tugbong, Cacao, Naghalin, San Isidro, Tagaytay, Masarayao, Aguiting, Libertad, Lonoy, Rizal, Montealegre, Mahawan, Kawayan, Sto. Niño, Natubgan and Hiluctogan.

DA Regional Executive Director Antonio Gerundio endorsed the request to Alcala, saying some of the proposed roads are within the Ormoc-Kananga Upland Range and are important for the production and marketing of agricultural products as well as facilitating the easy transport of crops from the farms to the marketplace.
