MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan, Feb. 25 –He came, he saw, he reported it!

Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado became an instant field reporter of radio station DWSS during re-enactment of the “Salubungan”, giving blow-by-blow accounts of the celebration of the 26th anniversary EDSA “People Power “ revolution at People Power Monument along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), Quezon City, Saturday morning.

Alvarado gave vivid details of what was transpiring at the People Power Monument during the weekly radio program “The Governor’s Hour” which he co-anchors every Saturday morning with Bulakenyo broadcaster Rommel Ramos over DWSS 1494 khz at the AM band.

Ramos earlier told listeners that the governor was at EDSA, attending the celebration, together with President Benigno S. Aquino III, Vice President Jejomar Binay and other government officials.

The governor reported the current events at EDSA when he called the station and fielded situation reports at around 8:15 a.m. Saturday.

He reported that there was an overwhelming feeling of nationalistic pride at the site where former military rebels, led by former Defense Minister and now Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, then Armed Forces vice chief of staff Lt. Gen. and former President Fidel V. Ramos, ex-Army Colonel and now Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan, former Col. Eduardo R. Ermita and former Col. Ramon Montano, attended the “Salubungan” reenactment from Camp Aguinaldo to the People Power Monument along EDSA.

The ‘Salubungan” was the reenactment of the time when Enrile, Honasan and soldiers belonging to the Reform the Armed Forces Movement walked from Camp Aguinaldo to nearby Camp Crame on the second day of the bloodless revolt.

Alvarado said that what transpired at EDSA 26 years ago, is a blessing from God to the Filipino people.

He said that the peaceful revolution has already became a “trademark” of the Filipino people and has become a model for other countries wanting to be freed from oppression and tyranny.

The EDSA People's Power Revolution is unique. There are a lot who imitated but what was original is ours. Although others have also succeeded, we can say that they just copied the EDSA People's Power revolution in February 1986, Alvarado said. (PNA) RMA/zst/EGG/ps
