BAGUIO CITY, Feb. 23 – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started to release part of the P37.9 million intended for senior citizens pension plan in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Rogerson Dennis Fernandez, an official of the DSWD office here in-charge of the program, said this year's new beneficiaries in the region totaled to 2,752.

"Last year, we had a total of 3,566 beneficiaries. This shows that more senior citizens in our region are being helped by our social program which would assure the elderlies' support and care when they become sick and disabled," he said.

The pension plan would also assure the beneficiaries of their basic needs like food and medicines.

The pension plan, he said, is part of the government's social oriented program which protects the welfare of the indigent and old sector who at the twilight of their years have only zero to minimal incomes. (PNA)
