DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao, Feb. 23 – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DSWD-ARMM) has sent relief items to hundreds of families displaced by flash floods in Lanao del Sur and Maguindanao.

Heavy down pour the past few days have swelled several rivers and tributaries in Lanao del Sur that affected at least 700 families in Malabang town, a coastal community in Lanao del Sur, according to ARMM Vice Governor and DSWD-ARMM Sec. Bainon Karon.

Karon directed Assistant Secretary Pombaen Karon-Kadir to lead the relief teams in the two provinces.

"This is just to augment the relief assistance provided for by the municipal and provincial DSWD offices as the first responder," Kadir said.

Kadir said DSWD-ARMM is also monitoring the low lying villages in Sultan Kudarat and Raja Buayan towns after the water level rose to about half meter from its normal level.

The two towns are sitting beside the Rio Grande de Mindanao.

In Raja Buayan, seven houses were submerged with flood water since Wednesday when heavy down pour occurred in southern Maguindanao.
