'Witness can't be half for the prosecution, half for the defense'–Cuevas

MANILA, Feb. 20 – Defense lead counsel retired Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Serafin Cuevas on Monday said that the witness cannot be half for the prosecution and half for the defense.

Cuevas was referring to Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) president Pascual Garcia III who testified before the Senate Impeachment Court on the bank records of Corona at the PSBank.

According to Cuevas, in his 40 years in the academe, "ngayon lang ako nakarinig ng ganyan (it's the first time that I heard such a witness)".

Cuevas was reacting to the manifestation of House private prosecutor Atty. Demetrio Custodio that they were adopting Garcia as a witness for the prosecution.

Garcia was ordered to bring with him the second Corona signature card.

Senate Impeachment Court presiding officer Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile deferred resolution on the issue "for further study by the court itself". (PNA)
