Trader, aide shot dead while biking in Laguna town

SANTA CRUZ, Laguna, Feb. 13 — A businessman and his bodyguard were shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen while they were biking in Famy, Laguna Sunday morning, the police reported.

Senior Insp. Gerry Sanggalang, Famy acting police chief, in a report to Senior Supt. Gilbert Cruz, Laguna provincial police director, identified the fatalities as Juan Gatdula Jr. and his aide, Timoteo Maalala, both residents of nearby Sta. Maria town.

Sanggalang said the victims were biking along the Manila East Service Road in Famy when they were fired upon by the gunmen for still unknown motive.

The police recovered seven empty shells of a caliber .45 handgun at the crime scene. <P>Director Cruz ordered Sanggalang to create a Task Force to investigate the killing.
