ZAMBOANGA CITY, Feb. 9 – The regional office of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has registered an increase of P33 million in its revenue collection last year compared to that in 2010, a top LTO official announced Thursday.

LTO Regional Director Aminola Abaton said that his office collected a total of P302.5 million last year which is higher by P33 million compared to the P269.5-million revenue collection in 2010.

Abaton attributed the increase in the collection of revenues by his office to the recorded increase in the number of motor vehicles registration.

Abaton said the number of motor vehicles registered last year was higher by 55,007 compared to that registered in the previous year.

The number of motor vehicles registered in 2011 totaled 376,453 which is higher by 55,007 compared to 321,446 registered in 2010, Abaton added.

Aside from that, Abaton said that the number of driver's license issued by his office increased by 4,094.

The issuance of driver's licenses is one of the revenue sources of the LTO, he said.

The number of driver's licenses issued last year totaled 170,153 which is higher by 4,094 than the 166,059 licenses issued in 2010.

Meanwhile, Abaton said that his office has recorded a total of 16,460 cases in 2011, higher by 372 cases compared to the 16,088 cases in 2010 as far as enforcement of the Traffic Code of the Philippines and other traffic laws are concerned. (PNA) LAP/Teofilo P. Garcia/utb
