SC Justice Del Castillo to take leave of absence

MANILA, Feb. 7 – Supreme Court (SC) Spokesman and Court Administrator Atty. Jose Midas Marquez said on Tuesday that Associate Justice Mariano Del Castillo will take a leave of absence to undergo heart surgery.

Del Castillo, who is the subject of a separate impeachment complaint before the House of Representatives, has been accused of plagiarism.

Marquez said that "he (Del Castillo) is scheduled to undergo heart bypass soon. He will probably be on leave beginning next week."

The SC spokesman said that it will be a wellness leave which would take two or three weeks long.

Marquez said that the leave has nothing to do with the impeachment complaint filed against Del Castillo.

"He (Del Castillo) needs to undergo bypass surgery because his last bypass was not successful. His arteries remain clogged," he said. (PNA)
