MANILA, Feb. 7 — The Supreme Court (SC) has called for a special en banc session on Thursday in connection with impeachment-related matters, particularly the House prosecution panel's request to subpoena some justices of the SC to testify against impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona.

SC Spokesman and Court Administrator Atty. Jose Midas Marquez said that the special en banc session will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday.

"Some justices are submitting their written views on the matter. They do not want to wait for next Tuesday anymore because subpoena may be issued right away," Marquez said.

The House prosecution panel asked the Senate Impeachment Court to subpoena SC Associate Justices Martin Villarama Jr., Presbitero Velasco Jr., Maria Lourdes Sereno, and Bienvenido Reyes.

Marquez said that the SC opted to discuss it because "it goes into the very essence of separation of powers." (PNA)
