President Benigno S. Aquino III confers the Plaque of Outstanding Program to Albay Province: Health Strategy for MDG Attainment, represented by Albay Governor Joey Salceda, one of the recipients of the Galing Pook Awards 2011 at the Rizal Ceremonial Hall of Malacanang on Monday (Jan. 30, 2012). With a policy declaring the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as top priority in 2007, Albay is now either close to achieving or has achieved the major indicators under MDG4 (reduce child mortality), MDG5 (improve maternal health care), MDG6 (combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases), MDG1 (eradicate extreme poverty and hunger) and MDG7 (ensure environmental sustainability).
