Secretary Roxas says country needs stable, fair justice system

CEBU CITY, Feb. 1 – Transportation Secretary Mar Roxas has said the country needs to have a stable and fair justice system to promote investor confidence so more jobs can be generated.

”This is not to persecute PGMA (former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) and (Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato) Corona. It is a method of removing persons in office so people will not suffer,” Roxas said, referring to the ongoing impeachment trial of Corona.

Roxas was the keynote speaker Tuesday of the 7th Visayas Island Conference of the Provincial Board Members’ League of the Philippines (PBMLP).

With its theme on education and employment, the conference invited speakers to discuss how their agencies can help each province on these issues.

Roxas, who served as trade secretary of former president Arroyo, was invited to discuss the Public Employment Service Office (Peso) “as a viable mechanism for local employment generation.”

After discussing the topic, he talked about the Corona impeachment, as part of the President Benigno S. Aquino III’s “matuwid na daan” program.

”This is not against the Constitution but rather the President’s pursuit for reforms,” Roxas said.

He said the country will have a chance to attract manufacturers who feel China’s rising labor costs.

As this developed, businessmen from Qatar are scheduled to see Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia this week to discuss the need for 1,000 skilled workers in their country.

Bien Unido, Bohol Mayor Nino Rey Boniel is making the arrangements.

Boniel, one of the owners of Phil-Gulf Manpower Agency, an international recruitment agency, said companies in Qatar are looking for skilled workers for fabrication and manufacturing.

He also scheduled a courtesy call with Bohol Gov. Edgar Chato.

He said foreign companies are planning to recruit workers here and in Bohol. (PNA) DCT/LAP/EB/re
