MANILA, Jan. 30 — The Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing (ADPCN) is supporting the Retirement & Healthcare Coalition (RHC) in pushing for the country to become a prime international retirement destination.
ADPCN president Elizabeth Roxas said they will initially send delegates to the ongoing series of seminars the RHC is holding to assist the Philippine healthcare system.
“We have recommended to our member schools that they attend the seminars along with their senior nursing students. The RHC seminars will be beneficial to those who are involved in the nursing profession,” Roxas said.
The ADPCN, with 450 member colleges and universities, is the biggest grouping of educational institutions in the country that offer nursing programs.
For his part, RHC executive director Marc Daubenbuechel said they welcome the support being given by the ADPCN to their projects.
“Getting all the Philippine healthcare sectors involved is very important to us towards harnessing the potential of the country as a retirement destination,” Daubenbuechel said.
The two sides have agreed to study the possibility of doing a public-private-partnership project that will incorporate a module or an elective subject on elderly care in the nursing programs of colleges and universities in the country.
“We can assist in developing the module. The World Health Organization has already made a study on this in the 1990s,” Roxas said.
According to Roxas, they will be pilot testing a one- year program on the care for the elderly in Baliwag University. She is the long-time nursing dean of the Bulacan-based autonomous university that has been ranked as having one of the best nursing programs in the country.
The RHC, composed of the American, European, Japanese, and Korean chambers, is currently holding a series of one-day seminars dubbed “The Importance of Quality Management Systems for Healthcare Facilities.”
Together with TUV Rheinland and DEG-KfW Bankengruppe, the seminars are in preparation for a certification program that is aimed at elevating the standards of healthcare facilities in Metro Manila, Cebu, Clark, Dumaguete, Subic, and Tagaytay.
The seminars will tackle effective and trusted quality management systems, infection controls, importance of occupational health and safety in healthcare facilities, transparency in medical prices and procedures, and public-private-partnerships in healthcare initiatives.
The RHC has been assisting the government in addressing deficits in the quality of service, transparency of operations and prices, and inadequate legal basis for mistreatment among medical facilities in the country. (PNA)
