FUKUSHIMA, Japan, Jan. 23 — Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba said Sunday that the Japanese government may pick Fukushima as the host prefecture for an international conference on nuclear safety to be co-hosted by Japan and the International Atomic Energy Agency later this year.
Gemba, a House of Representatives member elected from the Fukushima No. 3 constituency, said in a gathering in Sukagawa that the northeastern Japan prefecture should "make progress in its reconstruction efforts with a resolve to demonstrate to the world its goals and achievements."
The government is considering selecting Koriyama as the host city, Gemba added. (PNA/Kyodo) rsv /rsm
