BALER, Aurora, Jan. 18 — The provincial government will hire additional medical specialists for the newly-completed Aurora Memorial Hospital (AMH) in this capital town.
Governor Bellaflor Angara-Castillo said they are now working for additional doctors for the new hospital who are specialists in their chosen fields in medicine such as surgeon, anesthesiologist, pediatrician, internal medicine, among others.
Angara-Castillo said the provincial health and budget gave the provincial government officials several suggestions to properly address their concerns on the hiring and placement of competent and capable medical specialists and staff to ensure quality hospital service.
“Aside from our present doctors and nurses, we have now a new anesthesiologist and affiliate surgeon but still there is a pressing need for more medical specialists,” she said.
Dr. Luisito G. Teh, provincial health officer said that since the turnover of the Japanese government to Aurora provincial government of the AMH last December 14, 2011, they were all in dry-run and familiarization of the newly state-of-the-art hospital facilities.
“We are all in hospital reforms to cope up with the latest technology of the hospital that was granted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),” Teh said.
It can be recalled that JICA also donated to the provincial government some P57-million worth of sophisticated equipment for use of the newly upgraded P594-million AMH.
The equipment consist of 150 various types of imported equipment from Japan among which are dental, physical therapy and radiology equipment such as general x-ray system, automatic x-ray film processor and ultrasound machine for general examination; laboratory equipment (hematology analyzer and autopsy table), central supply and sterilization room equipment and equipment for the ward such as infant warmer and mechanical ventilator.
Other equipment include four defibrillators, anesthesia apparatus with vaporizer, operating tables and EENT.
The hospital was built through a P509-million grant-in aid from JICA and P85 million in counterpart funding from the provincial government.
The improved facilities are seen to enhance the hospital’s examination and medical care capacities, especially in surgery and obstetrics and gynecology departments and the quality of medical services.
The AMH would also be used as the training institution for the midwifery and nursing students from the University of the Philippines School of Health Sciences in the province. (PNA) DCT/FFC/zst/MCV/ps
