Hataman enforces curfew inside ARMM compound in Cotabato City

COTABATO CITY, Jan. 17 – Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) caretaker Governor Mujiv Hataman implements curfew hours within the 22-hectare Shariff Kabunsuan Complex here, the provisional seat of the region's government.

The governor’s action came in the heels of Monday’s grenade attack in front of the Population Commission (PopCom) Region 12 office located at the eastern section of the complex.

Though nobody was hurt in the attack, the grenade explosion shattered several glass windows of the PopCom 12 office and those of the nearby buildings.

Authorities have yet to establish the motive behind the attack.

“After 5:00 p.m. each day, those entering the compound would be subjected to full body search if they have last-minute transactions with the ARMM administration,” Hataman said.

He added that ARMM security personnel would also conduct routine patrols within the compound during the duration of the 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew.

“Security entry stickers for vehicles and visitors’ identification cards are also being readied as added safety measures,” the governor said.

Authorities foiled nearly a dozen bombing attempts inside the ARMM compound since the last quarter of 2011.

Hataman took over the helm of the ARMM leadership as officer –in-charge on Dec. 22, 2011 upon orders of President Benigno Aquino III following the end of the term of office of incumbent regional officials on Sept. 30 of same year.

The President moved for the postponement of elections in the ARMM last year on efforts to rid the region of political command votes instigated by powerful political clans in the region. (PNA)
