Ailing devotees are given prompt assistance by volunteers from different organizations and agencies during the Feast of the Black Nazarene procession from the Quirino Grandstand in Manila’s Rizal Park to Quiapo Church on Monday (Jan. 9, 2012). A number of devotees were treated for high blood pressure and minor injuries. The volunteers are from the Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Local Government Units, Philippine Red Cross, and non-government organizations. Every year, millions of devotees from all walks of life come to the district of Quiapo to take part in the procession as a way of strengthening their faith or fulfilling their “panata” (vow) to the Lord.
