PNP chief padlocks three pyrotechnics stores in Bocaue

BOCAUE, Bulacan, Dec. 30 –Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Nicanor Bartolome, on Friday ordered the immediate closure and cancellation of permit of three pyrotechnics stores in Barangay Turo for selling over-sized and killer types of firecrackers.

Bartolome also directed Bulacan police director Sr. Supt. Fernando H. Mendez to file charges against the owners of Allan Ramon Fireworks, Gladdy’s Fireworks and Bong and Lyn’s Fireworks after police operatives from the Police Regional Office 3 and the Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Bulacan Police Provincial Office conducted buy-bust operations and were able to buy several types of over-sized firecrackers like “Goodbye Philippines”, “Bin Laden”, “Pla-Pla” and “Super Lolo”.

Bartolome said that aside from selling regulated pyrotechnics devices, several store owners still selling underground types of fireworks.

He said the PNP would continue inspecting stores to ensure that killer types of firecrackers would not be sold.

The PNP chief also told Bulacan policemen to remain vigilant and be unrelentless in arresting violators of the Firecracker Law.

On Thursday, a Quezon City policeman died while another was wounded while enforcing the firecracker law.

PO2 Bernard Quintero died while being treated at the Far Eastern University Hospital due to gunshot wounds in the head. The wounded policeman was identified as PO3 Jessie Adajar.

Elements of the QCPD Station 5 along with the two policemen, Quintero and Adajar, were conducting surveillance operation after receiving information about the sale of illegal firecrackers in Fairmont Subdivision, North Fairview.

The policemen, after confirming the veracity of the report, returned to the area. However, they saw at least eight men waiting for them. The suspects reportedly fired at them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate.

“We will not be cowed by this incident and we will continue to hunt down violators of the law,” Bartolome said. (PNA) RMA/zst/EGG/MB/ps
