Balanga City holds grandiose Rizal Day commemoration

BALANGA CITY, Bataan, Dec. 30 — This city on Friday commemorated the 115th death anniversary of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal with pomp, starting with an early morning long parade.

At around 6 a.m., a brass band led the parade participated by the members of the Knights of Columbus, police officers, city officials, senior citizens, army soldiers, teachers, students, barangay officials and members of non-governmental organizations like the Rotary Club and Free Masons.

City Mayor Jose Enrique Garcia III led in the offering of flowers at the foot of the monument of Rizal with the newly-opened four-storey Galeria Victoria at the background.

We are now commemorating the greatness of our national hero, the young mayor said to the big crowd at the Plaza Mayor de Balanga adjacent to the elegant St. Joseph Cathedral and the City hall.

The program has its theme “115 Taong Paggunita sa Kabayanihan ni Dr. Jose Rizal – Rizal: Haligi ng Bayan”.

The mayor even cited one of the many anecdotes about Rizal on the value of money titled “Piso ni Rizal”.

Doves were later released after the lively program. Selected students presented a stage play in the form of dance and songs about the life of Rizal. (PNA)
