Superferry 1 runs aground off Coron, Palawan; 618 passengers safe

ILOILO CITY, Dec. 5 – Some 618 passengers aboard the Superferry 1 which ran aground off Taytayan Island in Coron, Palawan were all safe and sound.

In an information received by Bombo Radyo Iloilo from the Philippine Coast Guard based in Palawan, the passenger ship hit the shallow portions of the shore at about 11:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The Coast Guard authorities immediately deployed to the area four rescue boats to help the stranded passengers and ensure their safety.

The shipping company immediately called the Superferry 2 passenger ship docked at the Bredco Port in Bacolod City and asked it to proceed to Coron for the stranded passengers to transfer and be ferried to their destination.

It was learned that Superferry 1 left Puerto Princesa Port on its way to Metro Manila when the incident happened. (PNA) LAP/VLOrquiola/vlo
