MANILA, Nov. 28 -– The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Monday it is validating reports that Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) leader Ustadz Ameril Umra Kato is dead.

“Unless our soldiers have seen his body or pronouncement from relatives or loved ones, we can't confirm he has passed away," AFP Public Affairs Office (PAO) head Col. Arnulfo Burgos said

Earlier reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City said Kato was still recovering from poor health and recuperating well after a mild stroke hit him Wednesday.

Burgos said the AFP will continue to support the peace initiative of the government because Kato’s group has broken away with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) group. (PNA) DCT/RMA/JCA
