DUMAGUETE CITY, Nov. 23 – Suspected robbers struck anew this week, with the latest victim a visitor in Dumaguete City at the height of the festivities in time for the charter day anniversary and patron saint fiesta on Thursday and Friday.

The victim was identified as a certain Vicente Angel Marahan, 23, of San Jose, Negros Oriental.

Initial police investigation disclosed that Marahan was at the newly constructed boardwalk of the Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when a man walked up to him, announced a hold-up and brought around to a parked vehicle.

Another suspect appeared and both of them took the victim’s wallet with P4,000 in cash and fled on a motorcycle.

Police conducted hot pursuit operations but failed to nab the suspects amid rising public concern over this latest robbery incident, especially at a usually populated area like the boulevard.

Marahan, who had no money left after the robbery, was given fare by the police so he could return to his home town in San Jose, about half an hour’s drive north of this capital.

Police authorities are now strengthening their campaign to deter criminals from taking advantage of the heightened festivities in the coming days. (PNA) RMA/JFP
