MANILA, Nov. 21 – – Tension gripped at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after a 51-year old hysterical mother on Monday afternoon tried to leap from the building’s fourth level in a bid to stop her daughter from leaving the country.

Passengers and employees at the NAIA terminal 1 shrieked after seeing that Larcy Gonzales Alcantara was already stepping to the edge of the fourth level at 3:45 p.m.

Alert personnel from the Dnata Corp. were able to grasp the frenzied Alcantara before she could jump to the departure area where her daughter identified as Apple Gen Alcantara, 21, was checking in at the Etihad Airways counter for her flight to Abu Dhabi.

Police authorities said security guards with the help of the airport police managed to whisk the older Alcantara to the terminal boardroom where airport’s medical team rushed to pacify the hysterical mother.

“That was too close,” according to Capt. Jaime Estrella.

Police said they were able to find Apple Gen, who was already at the immigration area and has been informed about her mother’s woes.

It was learned that the mother had disagreed with Apple Gen’s travel in the United Arab Emirates which she was married to an Arab.

The mother said she don’t want her daughter to be with her husband due to behavioral problem. “Baka pag nandun siya, eh gulpihin na lamang ang anak ko. Habang nandito nga ang anak ko eh, P2,000 lang ang pinapadala ng asawa,” Larcy said.

However, Apple Gen denied her mother’s accusation, saying her husband never lift a hand against her.

Eventually Apple Gen was allowed to board her plane. (PNA) RMA/BLV/ssc
