Justice sector holds '2011 Anti-Illegal Drugs Forum'

MANILA, Nov. 13 – The Justice Sector Coordinating Council, led by the Supreme Court together with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), will hold the "2011 Anti-Illegal Drugs Forum" on Monday at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

The forum is aimed at identifying the issues, problems, and gaps in the enforcement, trial, judgment, execution of penalty/corrections, and rehabilitation/prevention in handling illegal drugs cases.

Likewise, it is also aimed at formulating strategies and action plans among key agencies as solutions to these problems.

The forum will also initiate commitments among the key agencies toward the implementation of the strategies and action plans.

Chief Justice Renato C. Corona will keynote the forum. Senate Majority Leader Vicente "Tito" C. Sotto III, DOJ Secretary Leila M. De Lima, and Executive Secretary Paquito N. Ochoa Jr. will each give a message.

SC Spokesman and Court Administrator Atty. Jose Midas P. Marquez will deliver the welcome remarks, while DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo will give the closing remarks.

Among the resource persons who will speak on their respective areas of concern are Department of Social Welfare and Development Undersecretary Alicia R. Bala, Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) Undersecretary Edgar C. Galvante, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Jose S. Gutierrez Jr., Chief Public Attorney Persida Rueda-Acosta, Bureau of Corrections Director Gaudencio S. Pangilinan, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Director Rosendo M. Dial, and National Prosecution Service (NPS) Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Theodore M. Villanueva. (PNA)
