(Metro News) Fire hits elementary school, populated residential area in Caloocan City

MANILA, Nov. 10 — A fire of still unknown origin gutted down some 50 residential houses as well as six classrooms and the library of the Gomburza Elementary School in Barangay 74 near Samson Road and Malonzo Street, Caloocan City, Thursday morning.

There was no report of casualty so far by the police after the fire incident which occurred at around 9:31 a.m. and quickly spread and engulfed most of the houses built of light materials in the area.

The fire alert was raised after 18 minutes or around 9:49 a.m. Around 40 fire trucks and their crews immediately responded to combat the flames.

The fire was eventually placed under control at 10:47 a.m. even as arson investigators are trying to ascertain cause of the conflagration.

Students of the affected Gomburza Elementary Schools were led to a nearby gymnasium, and eventually sent home. (PNA)
