U.S. Embassy closed on Nov. 11 for American holiday

MANILA, Nov. 9 — The United States Embassy in Manila and its affiliated offices will be closed on Friday, November 11, in observance of Veterans’ Day, an American holiday.

A message on the U.S. Embassy Facebook account said the Embassy and affiliated agencies will reopen to the public and resume services on Monday, November 14.

"Veterans Day" is an annual U.S. holiday honoring military veterans. It is also celebrated as "Armistice Day" or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world.

The holiday falls on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.

Major hostilities of World War I formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of the year 1918, with German officials signing the Armistice. (PNA)
