Iloilo transport sector to plant 3,500 seedlings on Nov. 12

ILOILO CITY, Nov. 9 — The transport sector here will plant around 3,500 seedlings in support to the Action for Regreening and Transformation (ART) program launched by Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. on May 20 that aims to plant one million trees within this year.

Director Romulo Bernardes, of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Region 6, said the transport sector will hold the tree planting activity on Saturday, Nov. 12, in Barangay Pangilihan in Janiuay, Iloilo.

The activity will also be joined by other government agencies under the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) such as the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina).

The seedlings will be provided by the Iloilo Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and Vallacar Transit, a leading bus company operating in Western Visayas.

Neva Jane Alfaras of the LTFRB regional office said that there will be around 300 to 400 bus, taxi, and jeepney operators and drivers that will be participating in the treeplanting activity.

She said a launching program will be held around 6 a.m. Saturday to be attended by Gov. Defensor and Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog at the Jaro Plaza. (PNA)
