DSWD provides shelter to 2,706 families displaced by conflict in Zamboanga Sibugay

MANILA, Oct. 27 -– Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman said that the agency is providing shelter to 2,706 families displaced by the fighting in Zamboanga Sibugay.

Soliman said that 13 evacuation centers were opened in safe areas of the province to assist these displaced families.

She also pointed out that affected families are from 22 barangays in the towns of Payao, Talusan, Alicia, Mabuhay and Olutanga in Zamboanga Sibugay.

“The government is handling the situation and the existing local Disaster Risk Reduction and Monitoring Councils are capable of responding to the needs of the evacuees,” Soliman said. (PNA)
