MANILA, Oct. 21 — The Philippine government expressed hopes on Friday that with the death of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan people’s aspiration for democracy will be fully realized and that it will yield peace, stability and prosperity for them.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) also congratulated the Libyan people for their latest victory and the total liberation of Libya.

”It (the Philippine government) hopes that the latest development in Libya will lead to the immediate restoration of normalcy and peace throughout the country,” the statement said.

At the same time, the DFA reiterated the Philippines’ gratitude and appreciation to the Libyan people for keeping Filipinos there safe throughout the conflict, as thousands of Filipinos consider Libya their second home.

”Many hope to return, work, and contribute to the reconstruction and rebuilding of the new Libya,” it added.

Officials of the National Transitional Council had earlier announced that Gaddafi was killed in the Libyan city of Sirte on Thursday. (PNA) scs/FPV
